6 Reasons to Spend Christmas in Ibiza

Ibiza is known to be one of the most partying islands in Europe and one of many tourists' favourite holiday destinations. There are stylish beach clubs, spectacular beaches and nature, glamorous restaurants, and very hospitable locals. There's about anything you can think of doing on the island during high-season in the summer. However, the winter months are also a great time to spend your holiday vacation, especially if it's celebrating Christmas with your family. This time of the year on the island is unique and has many things to offer. You will kick-start the new year with overflowing energy and good vibes on this spectacular destination.

Here are six reasons for spending your Christmas holidays in Ibiza.

1) Winter in Ibiza: Pleasant temperatures, relaxation and tranquillity

One reason Ibiza is a great destination to spend Christmas is its favourable weather during the winter months. Now, if you're a bigger fan of snow and cold temperatures during Christmas, then this might not be the destination for you. But if you prefer pleasant temperatures, then Ibiza makes a perfect match. The average temperature during these months is around 20º, making it ideal for beach-hopping, nature activities, and soaking up the wonderful sun rays. Winter in Ibiza is also very peaceful, so it's great for those who seek relaxation and tranquillity instead of the hustle and bustle of a busy city at this time of the year.

2) Family Time

One thing about Christmas in Ibiza is it's very low-key. This time of the year is not at all showy or extravagant compared to other places. Yet there are a lot of advantages when it comes to this. For instance, you won't have to experience the frenzy Christmas commercial traditions everywhere you go. And that's what makes it special on Ibiza because Christmas is all about family time and straying away from shallowness and consumerism. Spending quality time with your family on a relaxing island paradise during these festivities makes it a unique experience that will make an unforgettable impression on every family member. When you get the chance of strolling around the island, you will see how there's a big family emphasis wherever you go. Four generations of family relatives will be relaxing on the beach, enjoying leisurely meals, and exchanging gifts.

3) Nature at its best, breathtaking views and sunsets

3) Nature at its best, breathtaking views and sunsets

What other reason winter is a great time to spend the holidays in Ibiza? The reduced number of tourists at this time of the year makes it ideal for immersing yourself in the island's natural beauty and feel enchanted in peace and tranquillity. The island is set in the Mediterranean Sea and boasts more than a hundred miles of coastline-- so one can enjoy the magnificent scenic views in any corner of this beautiful island. Imagine yourself with your family strolling along large stretches of white sandy uncrowded, or even deserted beaches, indulging in its fresh breeze and the cove's embracing lush greenery. This might be too good to be true- yet it is. Experiencing Christmas on the island will surely make anyone feel enamoured.

For nature enthusiasts, you will find various stunning nature trails that lead to virgin forests and beaches and breathtaking cliff-tops. Exploring them will make for an exciting family adventure.

Aside from exploring these nature trails, one can enjoy sunsets which are known to be utterly spectacular during the winter months on the island. You can climb up the various cliff-tops with your family and have a picnic at the summit while waiting for the sundown. Birdwatching is a great activity as well during this time of the year.

Furthermore, Ibiza's UNESCO old town is wonderful to visit and marvel at the beautiful Ibizan architecture. You climb up through its steep cobbled streets and reach the highest plateau where the marvellous cathedral and castle are located. Here, you can also enjoy the scenic views of the island.

4) Special events and activities

There are many special events and parties during the Christmas holidays. And due to covid, all of them are adapted to measures and restrictions to ensure people's utmost safety. One of the most traditional events that occur during this time is when many people swim across the icy water of San Antonio harbour at noon on Christmas Day.
Christmas officially kick-starts on the 2nd of December on Ibiza when the illumination and Christmas markets are completely set up, and ends on the 6th of January on the "Three Wise Men Day". On this day, there are many processions around the streets where the "three wise men" parade on floaters and throw many gifts of chocolates and sweets for children to pick.

Also, you will find many children's shows, concerts, exhibitions, workshops and nativity scenes

5) Christmas Markets and Christmas dishes

Christmas couldn't be Christmas without its unique markets. You can find a bunch of them peppered across the island, apart from their usual flea markets and food markets. You'll find about anything here, from typical Christmas decorations, clothes, food and special dishes, to toys, artefacts, and even shows! There are usually meet-and-greets with Santa Claus too. Furthermore, at some of the Christmas markets, you can even find DJ's and charming little parties where one can fully soak up the Christmassy Ibizan atmosphere.

Ibiza at Christmas also offers unique and delicious Christmas dishes, such as "Bullit de Peix" which is a special fish stew that one could relish by the seafront and the "sofrit pagès" which is a stew with different meats, veggies and potatoes. Aside from the delicious dishes, one can indulge on the island's many chic private restaurants which are utterly gorgeous.
