Let’s begin our historical journey in the archeological museum of Ibiza, located in the Cathedral square in Dalt Villa, in the Eivissa area, which primarily focuses on displaying the material remains of Ibiza’s and Formentera’s exciting historical pasts, which they have preserved and are still doing research on. This spectacular museum which spreads over various buildings is home to a permanent collection which exhibits objects that represent 3000 years of history and is separated into 6 time periods, one to please everybody! These themes include: Prehistory, Phoenician Colonisation, Punic Times, High Roman Empire Times, Low Roman Empire Times and Moorish Medieval Times.

The Archeological Museum is part of the Necropolis del Puig, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, which is of great importance for historians and archeologists, especially the ones who focus on Phoenician reign in the mediterranean of the West as a large number of graves can be found on site. To top it up, it is even possible to climb down into caves and admire the archeological remains from close up!

This impressive avant-garde museum is one of Spain’s most ancient contemporary museums and is located inside a beautiful building which is emblematic of the XVIIth century.
