Head for Es Cubells, a charming village in Ibiza.

At Villanovo, Ibiza is appreciated for its authenticity, its unspoilt natural landscapes and its mild climate all year round. Ibiza is a destination with cultural richness and beauty far more important than the preconceived ideas that one can have about Ibiza. So we set off to discover the small traditional villages of the island and today we present you the little jewel of Es Cubells.

Head for Es Cubells, a charming village in Ibiza.

The centre of the village

A true refuge from the crowds of big cities, Es Cubells is a magnificent little village of just under 1000 inhabitants with an undeniable tranquillity. A perfect destination to disconnect for a day and enjoy the sun in complete serenity. Located in the southwest of the island and in the municipality of San Josep de la Talaia, the peculiarity of this village is that it is located on a cliff with a breathtaking view of Formentera. The village's somewhat complicated access and its unique location have enabled it to preserve its historical character over the years. Es Cubels is especially famous for its whitewashed church, built in the nineteenth century and named after the Mare de Déu del Carme, which was officially inaugurated in 1957.  Every year the church hosts two fiestas that entertain the village for a day, one on 16 July in honour of the patron saint of sailors, Mare de Déu del Carme, and the other on 15 October for Santa Teresa, which is celebrated in a convent very close to the village.

Although half a day is enough to go around the village and discover its monuments, there are still some activities that go on, among them the Es Cubells restaurant, which contributes to the preservation of the village and offers delicious local specialities. At the same time, you will find the monument to the fishermen dating from 1996 on the edge of the cliff and in memory of the missing sailors.

The nearby beaches

Beyond the traditional church of Es Cubells, it is the beaches on the outskirts of the village that give it all its interest. Indeed, starting from the village square you can reach the bottom of the cliffs and several small beaches, each one more beautiful than the other. The beach of Es Cubells is located just below the church. Made up of sand and pebbles with a striking calmness and very little visitors. This beach is all the more beautiful as you will find old fishermen's huts that have resisted the passage of time. This set of three small creeks separated by rocks offers a crystal clear water ideal if you want to admire the fish and to dive. You won't regret your little excursion to Es Cubells!
